STUDENT RESIDENTIAL (GOMBAK)

Background

Mahallah is the residential college for students at the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). Presently, there are 21 Mahallat that accommodate all the Undergraduate and Postgraduate Students at the 3 campuses of IIUM which is 17 Mahallat in Gombak Campus, 3 Mahallat in Kuantan Campus and 1 Mahallah in Pagoh Campus. Out of 17 Mahallat in Gombak Campus, 6 of them are for male students, 9 of them are for female students and another 2 are the mix mahallat between male and female.

Mahallah Administration

The Mahallah is led by a Principal who is appointed by the Deputy Rector, Student Development & Community Engagement (SDCE) and assisted by Fellows that are responsible in handling student’s activities, discipline and welfare. At the same time, all Mahallat are coordinated by the Office of Residential & Services Department (RSD) and managed by respective mahallah administrative staff to concentrate on daily running of the administrative, services and maintenance requests of Mahallah.

Student Body at Mahallah

The highest student body at mahallah level is known as the Mahallah Representative Committee (MRC). The purpose of this student body is to assist Mahallah Principal & Fellows in organizing student’s activities as well as catering student’s welfare at mahallah. The MRC lineup consists of 12 members led by a MRC President. The recruitment of the MRC members is done through interviews by the respective Mahallah Principal & Fellows.

 

All the MRC Presidents of each mahallah are gathered under one council named as Mahallah Representative Coordination Council (MRCC). The purpose of this council is to discuss any mahallah-related issues and organize centralized programmes such as IIUM Sports Carnival and Inter-Mahallah Cultural Week. This council is among the highest student bodies in IIUM after the Student Union and Kulliyah-Based Society Council.

Reports on Maintenance Problems

Starting from February 2018, all maintenance problems at mahallah must be done online through the Online Mahallah Maintenance Report via Google Form.

 

However, for any defect on major problems that needs immediate action especially after working hours or during weekend and public holiday i.e. tripping, kindly make a direct call to DBSB Helpdesk at 03-6196 5415.

Centralized Programmes organized by Mahallah

IIUM Sports Carnival

IIUM Sports Carnival (ISC) is the biggest sports carnival in IIUM and an annual event organized by Council of Principals & Mahallah Representative Coordination Council in collaboration with Sports Development Centre. Usually, this programme will be held in the month of November every year. Every Mahallah in IIUM will participate and compete among each other in order to be the champion under two categories which is Male and Female Category.

Inter-Mahallah Cultural Week

Inter-Mahallah Cultural week is an event which has the similar background as IIUM Sports Carnival in which the competition is based on cultural activities or performances. This event will be held once in every two years.

MRC Leadership Training (MCLead)

MRC Leadership Training (MCLead) is a leadership camp for all the newly appointed members of MRC of each mahallah. This camp is going to be held annually in every Semester 1 of the academic year. This camp has been the platform for the newly appointed Mahallah Students’ Leaders to enhance their soft skills as well as to build up their leadership skills in leading the mahallah.
